Success is counted sweetest
By those who ne'er succeed.
To comprehend a nectar
Requires sorest need.

Spring Day (by Su-Kyi, grade 4)

While Walking on the Garden Path
(by Caroline, grade 4 )

While walking on the garden path I found a little trail. And on the little trail I found a water pail! And in that water pail I found a little snail! You can find so many things Along the garden path.
Three Haiku (grades 3 and 4)

The Rapids (by Kartik )
the cold blue water rushing through slippery rocks so foamy and deep
Winter (by Ted)
the snowy winter had sharp icicles and cold animals sleeping
Life (by Adharsh)
while the evening light shines on the tree a little bird comes out, happy
Nature Breaking Through (by Jonah N. grade 5)

As the bitter cold touches my lips, I see three trees undressed like skeletons. The ice glitters as sharp as diamonds freshly cut. Greenery slowly creeps out of the receding snow. Then, silence. The sunlight blasts my eyes as the snow caves in. At first the wind is bone chilling as I take in the beautiful scene.

Winter Snowfall (by James P. grade 5)
Winter Snowfall Lightly floating down Into the quiet,
Each flake Different than the last-- Tickling
Little tongues With a film of ice. Go, snow, go.
Fall, snow, fall.

The God of Winds (by Max W. grade 7)
I am the God of Winds I drink the anger of the North and touch the cool consciousness of the East I feel the cheerfulness of the West I acknowledge the melancholy of the South
I do not fear the North's hurricanes of ash or fear South's tornadoes of sadness I fear the the cold heart of the East the bright heart of West I fear the dreadful balancing act between the four
I sleep in all their arms I wear them on my skin I dream their fatal existence I am the God of Winds

Forest Haiku (by Andrew M. grade 6)
Far as the eye sees orange, yellow, red, and brown a crisp autumn day
Quiet flowing stream sturgeon swimming up and down vivid, vibrant, blue
Clearing in the glade sparrows chirping in the sky primrose all around
Old Mr. Oak
By Sofia B. 6th Grade

Mr. Oak, why are you out in the cold so long? Why do you stand in the crystal snow without a jacket? You may be strong with your thick chest, But your thin arms need warmth. You look like your hands are grasping For the last rays of the sun. Mr. Oak, why can't you stay indoors until Spring comes And the birds chirp again and land on your arms, When you put on your hat of green leaves And I climb into your protective embrace?

The Arrival of Spring (by Jinan B.)
Lilac petals floating in the breeze Graceful words flying over seas Salmonberries swimming on maple trees Frozen winter starts to thaw from freeze
